Highland Belles Sweep MA North Texas Regional Drill Team Competition, Win 1st Place Overall

February
13, 2012 – Highland Park, Texas – The Highland Belles performed at the MA North
Texas Regional drill team competition on February 11th and took 1st
place overall, sweeping the competition for the second year in a row. The Belles danced under the direction of Shannon Harty, director, and Emily Sanchez, assistant director.
“Proud really does not adequately describe the feelings I have for this team
and their achievements this weekend,” said Harty. “Winning top honors this
weekend underscores our team’s dedication, precision, and cutting-edge
abilities. The attention to detail and drive it takes to win competitions at
this level should never be underestimated.”
Below if a list of this weekend’s awards:
Team Competition:
Winner’s Circle for the overall highest scoring team
The Highland Belles were the top scoring team of the day out of all 48 teams
attending the MA Regional Contest. The Belles earned 883.5 points, out of a
possible 900 points.
Best In Class of the Super Division
This award is for the highest score in age and size division.
The High Point Award for the highest scoring routine in its age division
The Highland Belles received the High-Point Award for Kick, Jazz, Pom, &
Military.
Super Sweepstakes awards for a Superior rating of 90 or above by every judge: The Highland Belles earned a stellar rating of 96 or above on all routines.
Outstanding Choreography Awards for creativity, innovation, audience appeal
The Highland Belles received Choreography Awards in Kick, Jazz, Pom, &
Military.
Technique Awards for the best overall dance techniques:
The Highland Belles earned the highest Technique score of any team at the
competition, scoring 58.375 out of 60 points.
Officer Competition:
The Highland Belle Lieutenants entered their jazz routine. They received a Superior Rating and Choreography Award for this routine.
Ensemble Competition:
The Highland Belle All Americans earned the Superior Rating for their Jazz routine.

The Highland Belles are Highland Park High School’s award-winning drill team. For 30 years, the Highland Belles have been well known throughout Highland Park and the dance/drill community for their work ethic, technique and precision routines. Dancing under the director of Shannon Harty, Belles Director, Belle performances include military, jazz, pom, high kick, prop, and novelty selections.
